St. John’s (17-16) improved to 6-4 in Big East Conference play with a victory over DePaul (7-21) on Thursday and can clinch the three-game weekend series when the teams run it back on Friday afternoon at Cacciatore Stadium in Chicago. The Blue Demons are now 2-5 in conference action while the Red Storm has won back-to-back games. St. John’s made its lone NCAA tournament appearance in 2015. DePaul has a richer softball history with 21 NCAA bids and four trips to the Women’s College World Series but hasn’t gone to the national tournament since 2019. The Red Storm are tied for third in the Big East while the Blue Demons are eighth in the nine-team league.

Melanie Santos cracked a solo homer in the top of the fifth as St. John’s picked up an 8-0 run-rule victory in five innings on Thursday. A six-run first inning fueled the rout, with pitcher Ana Serafinko belting a grand slam while also pitching a no-hitter. London Jarrard slashes .349/.413/.624 with five homers and 34 RBI to pace the offense.
Brooke Johnson hits .430/.500/.835 for DePaul and leads the team with eight home runs and 18 RBI. Riley Pool is close behind with 16 runs driven in.
Bella Nigey leads the Blue Demons pitching staff with 63 innings, going 4-8 with a 4.11 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. Loreley Francia is 7-3 in 19 appearances with a 2.28 ERA and 1.21 WHIP for the Red Storm, covering 79.2 innings with 89 strikeouts.
