    On Thursday night, sixth-seeded Georgia Tech and third-seeded Virginia Tech will begin ACC tournament play with a quarterfinal matchup at Duke Softball Stadium. The Ramblin’ Wreck finished off the regular season with an overall record of 31-22 and a conference record of 12-12 after dropping the final two games to Virginia at home. The team picked up a narrow 6-5 win in the first game of the series before dropping the second game 16-1 in five innings and 4-3 in the finale. Tiffany Domingue powered the offense, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, but the team came up just short. Kinsey Norton was pegged with the loss after pitching four innings and giving up three earned runs, but she did strike out seven batters during her time in the circle.

    The Hokies played well in conference games this season and capped the regular season with an ACC record of 18-6 and an overall recored of 39-11-1. Virginia Tech’s last game of the regular season was played against Liberty and resulted in a 4-1 victory at home. Emma Lemley earned her 12th win of the season with a complete game in the circle, giving up six hits and striking out seven batters. Addy Greene opened the scoring against Liberty with a two-run homer to right center in the first and Bre Peck brought home the final two runs of the game with her own home run to center field in the fifth. Strong defense allowed the Hokies to earn the win and carry some momentum into the conference tournament.

    When Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech met in ACC play this season, the Hokies swept the Ramblin’ Wreck, outscoring them 29-10 over the three games. The winner of tonight’s quarterfinal game will go on to play either Florida State or Notre Dame in tomorrow’s semifinal matchup.
