The top-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions clash on the mat against No. 19 Michigan in college wrestling on Friday.

There might not be a more complete team this year in college wrestling than top-ranked Penn State (10-0). The Nittany Lions are coming off an absolute thrashing of third-ranked Iowa, finishing the Hawkeyes off in a 30-8 one-sided competition. They turn their attention to another rival in 19th ranked Michigan (5-4) who is looking to bounce back from a loss. This season the Nittany Lions have allowed single-digit points in every competition with nine off their 11 wins coming by over 30 points. Senior heavyweight Greg Kerkvliet leads the way as the top ranked wrestler in his division and one of eight Nittany Lions ranked fourth or better in the country.

Sophomore Mitchell Mesenbrink is the other Nittany Lion ranked No. 1 in his weight class. He leads the 165-pound division and will have a tough matchup against the Wolverines with freshman Beau Mantanona who is ranked 12th in the country this season.

Kerkvliet will also face a very tough challenge from the Wolverines in eighth-ranked Josh Heindselman. These two veteran wrestlers have seen each other plenty of times over the years anchoring their programs.

The other match to watch comes in the 197-pound weight class where senior and second-ranked Jacob Cardenas of the Wolverines takes on freshman and fourth-ranked Josh Barr of the Nittany Lions. Every time these programs face-off on the mat it brings an NCAA Tournament level of completion with some of the best individual wrestlers in the country on display.
