In addition to individual titles, the wrestlers are also hoping to bring their school a national championship. Penn State will look to repeat for the fourth year in a row. Last year, the Nittany Lions earned 172.5 points to earn the win while Cornell finished in second and was a whopping 100 points behind them. The previous two years saw Iowa and Michigan taking the runner up positions, further solidifying the powerhouse that the Big Ten conference is in wrestling.

In 2024, four Nittany Lions earned national titles and eight earned All-American honors. Carter Starocci and Aaron Brooks completed the 2024 season as four-peat national title winners under Cael Sanderson. At the helm of the powerhouse program, Sanderson has only lost five Big Ten duals in the last 10 years and only 11 since he took over in 2009.
