It took a couple of tough early season losses, but 10th ranked Virginia Tech (5-2) are on track and look like one of the best teams in the country. The Hokies started the season with three straight wins including meets against eighth-ranked Missouri and 17th ranked Rutgers. Then a brief two meet slide losing to third-ranked Oklahoma State and 25th ranked North Carolina was a wake-up call. They have bounced back with two dominant wins heading into this in-state rivalry matchup with Virginia (4-3). The Cavaliers have dropped two straight meets to ranked opponents and look to avoid a third straight loss against a tough Hokies squad.

Caleb Henson has led the way for the Hokies in his junior season. He is undefeated through 12 matches and finds himself at the top of the 149 pound weight class. Henson is one of two Hokies currently ranked in the top 10 in their weight class along with freshman Jim Mullen in heavyweight, 285 pounds.

The Cavaliers counter Henson at 149 pounds with sophomore Jack Gioffre who is currently ranked 31st in the country. This is the first matchup between the two high level wrestlers in the 149 pound weight class, but Henson has some experience with the Gioffre family.

Last season he defeated Logan Gioffre, the older brother of Jack, who wrestles for Missouri. In that match Henson came away with a 6-4 win during the Virginia Tech – Missouri Dual. That could play a role in this matchup with Jack learning from his older brother on the mat to try and pull off the biggest win of his career.
