England gets a boost with the return to competition of fast bowler Mark Wood, who has been out since August after a stress fracture was discovered in his elbow while he was nursing a minor thigh injury during a Test against Sri Lanka. Wood joins Jofra Archer in England’s pace attack. Ben Duckett, England’s Test opener, will open the batting with Phil Salt. It is Duckett’s first time opening in T20s in six years.
The world champion Indians have won every bilateral T20I series since August 2023 and are expected to take a flexible approach to the series, potentially experimenting with a floating batting order as it prepares to co-host the 2026 T20 World Cup next February. Newly appointed vice-captain Axar Patel said anyone from numbers three through seven may come to bat “anytime, in any situation.”
The series will continue Saturday in Chennai before moving onto Rajkot on Tuesday, Pine on Jan. 31 and wrapping up on Feb. 2 in Wankhede. Three one-day international matches are also scheduled from Feb. 6-12.
Regional restrictions may apply.
