India (1-1, 2 points) and Sri Lanka (0-2, 0points) renew their rivalry on Wednesday at the International Cricket Council Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, facing off at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Women in Blue reached the knockout stage of the February 2023 World Cup held in South Africa, losing to eventual champion Australia in the semifinals, and were runners-up in 2020. Sri Lanka has never advanced beyond the group stage in eight World Cup appearances.

India handed Pakistan its first loss of the tournament on Sunday, taking a six-wicket decision 108 and 4 to 105 and 8. Shafali Verma put up 32 runs off 35 balls and captain Harmanpreet Kaur added 29 off 24 before she left with an injury. Kaur is expected back for the Sri Lanka match. Arundhati Reddy captured Player of the Match honores with three wickets taken and a 4.75 economy rate in four overs.

Sri Lanka fell to Australia by six wickets on Saturday, dropping a 94 and 4 to 93 and 7 decision. Nilakshika Silva scored 29 runs off 40 balls and Harshitha Samarawickrama had 23 off 35. Udeshika Prabodani, Inoka Ranaweera and Sugandika Kumari each took a wicket.

Silva leads Sri Lanka with 51 runs while Kaur’s 44 tops the Women in Blue. Kumari and Prabodani have each taken four wickets from Sri Lanka, as has Reddy for India.

India leads the all-time series 18-5, but it was Sri Lanka that prevailed by eight wickets with eight balls remaining at the Women’s Asia Cup Final on July 28 at Dambulla, Sri Lanka.
