The Dubai Capitals (6-4) finished off the group stage of the International League T20 Season 3 cricket tournament in the United Arab Emirates with four wins in its last five matches, storming up the table to second place. On Wednesday, the Capitals open the knockout phase with a match against the top team on the table, the Desert Vipers (7-3), in Qualifier 1. The winner advances to Sunday’s Final while the loser gets another chance to advance in Qualifier 2 on Friday against the victor of Thursday’s Eliminator between MI Emirates and the Sharjah Warriorz.

The Capitals completed their run to second place with a nine-wicket victory over the Vipers in the league stage finale on Monday, 138/1-137, completing a season sweep after winning by six wickets, 140/4-139/10, back on Jan. 20. Shai Hope finished the group stage with a league-best 467 runs, with Gulbadin Naib fourth on the list with 314. Dushmantha Chameera took 12 wickets in eight matches to lead Dubai.

Desert finished with two losses in its final three group-stage matches, with Alex Hales leading the attack with 286 runs, followed by Sam Curran’s 267. Wanindu Hasaranga and Mohammad Amir shared the team lead with 11 wickets taken.

Both clubs have advanced to the Final. The Desert Vipers were the runners-up in 2023, losing to the champion Gulf Giants in the Final, while the Dubai Capitals lost to MI Emirates in the final match last year. Lockie Ferguson serves as the Vipers captain, with David Warner in that role for the Capitals.
