East Carolina will travel to San Antonio, Texas, this weekend for an American Athletic Conference showdown in men’s college basketball. On Saturday, they will take the court against UTSA at the UTSA Convocation Center. The East Carolina Pirates are 12-11 overall this season and after another loss on Wednesday, have fallen to just 4-6 against teams in the conference. They are a half-game back of USF and a half-game ahead of Tulsa. They also sit 4.5 games back of the conference-leading No. 17-ranked Memphis, who is 8-1.

After leaving January with a 4-4 record against AAC teams, they have lost two straight games in February, opening with a four-point loss in overtime against Temple on the road last weekend. C.J. Walker even dropped a game-high 33 points on 14-of-22 shooting in the loss. Earlier this week, they lost to Rice at home by 13 points despite another game-high 23 points from Walker.

The UTSA Road Runners are 10-12 overall this season and roll that negative record in the conference with a 4-6 record against American teams. They are tied with their opponent and a game back from Florida Atlantic. They are also a game ahead of Rice and Tulsa and three games ahead of the last-placed Charlotte.

Last weekend, they opened up February on the road against North Texas and took them down, winning by four points. Raekwon Horton had a game-high 23 points and four rebounds. Earlier this week, they went back home and just lost to Tulane 61-60 without their leading scorer, Primo Spears. Marcus Millender showed up in that win, dropping 28 points with five rebounds and three assists, but he was the one who fouled with two seconds left to give Tulane the win.
