East Playoffs Second Round Game 3: Philadelphia 76ers at Atlanta Hawks Preview, Betting Odds, How to Watch Live

  •   2 min reads

Is it okay to bask in the glory that there is indeed a playoff series past the first round between the Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers? Every rule of journalism but this seems like an appropriate time to break the rules. Just think back even five years years ago at the state of these two franchises. Philly just got done with a better part of a decade of tanking and trusting a unproven process at best.

The Hawks were about to start a three-year run of never winning more than thirty games. They won that money back in March this year. Remember this season started just before Christmas? That seems a thousand years ago, but it's safe to say that the draft has legitimately worked for both of these franchises. The tale of these two cities entrenched in basketball has been very similar lately. It's great to see that both the Hawks and Sixers are trending up and we might see this matchup for quite some time to come for supremacy in the East.

Philadelphia is obviously the better team this year especially when Joel Embiid is healthy but there is absolutely no way you can discount the Hawks. Quavo, the Atlanta legend, and one-third of the trio Migos are releasing an album today entitled Culture III. This happens to coincide with the first game back in Atlanta for the Hawks. In promotion of the album, he appeared on First Take to talk about his Hawks. He isn't just a homer, he is always courtside at these games before when courtside is a thing. He makes a good point that they're in great position especially after stealing Game 1 from a superior team in a raucous arena in Philly.

The Luka Doncic for Trae Young trade has to be one of the most even trades in the history of this sport. The Mavs and Hawks both got transcendent young players and are the future of this league. Young became a villain in the game's biggest arena at MSG and still came out on top even after being heckled and spit on. Young and the Hawks dominated that series when they went back home and they have to do so in this series to have any shot of making it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

For that to happen, Young has to play better than he did in Game 2. He had the team high in points but he tied with Danilo Gallinari with 21. To put it in perspective, Embiid had 39 and 40 points in Game 1 and 2 respectively. Somehow the Philadelphia big man has been doing this all with an meniscus tear in his knee. Clint Capela is going to need to step up to slow Embiid down which he should be capable being a legitimate DPOY candidate this season. But if the Hawks can't find an answer this is going to be a short series no matter where it's being played.
