ABC premieres an all-new season of 20/20 on Friday night at 9 p.m. ET.
On Friday night, David Muir will take a step away from debate moderating and reprise his role as the host of ABC’s hit show 20/20. The award-winning program is anchored by David Muir and Deborah Roberts and features unforgettable, character-driven true crime mysteries, exclusive newsmaker interviews, hard-hitting investigative reports and in-depth coverage of high profile stories. The show began back in 1978 with Roone Arledge as the host and was designed to follow human interest stories rather than international coverage of conflict and politics. The two-hour show tends to highlight true crime stories and celebrity scandals over traditional investigative journalism which is one of the draws for its large audience size.

The show has covered some of the biggest news stories in history including the story of Diane Downs, a mother who shot her kids and gave up the child she was pregnant with at the time of her arrest; the story of the Jordan Turpin and her siblings who were held captive by their parents; and possibly the most viewed story in the history of the show in which Barbara Walters sat down to interview Monica Lewinsky, the former White House intern who was infamously revealed to have been involved in an affair with then-President Bill Clinton a few years earlier. The episode garnered viewership from an estimated 70 million viewers which ABC shared was a record audience for a news program.
Friday night’s premiere episode is titled “Cold Blooded” and includes a murder in a small, remote Alaskan town following a secret romance. The story included body camera footage which helps to reveal clues about the killer who took authorities on a multi-state manhunt.
Tune in Friday night as Muir and Robert dive back into one of America’s biggest obsessions with this true crime premiere.
