How to Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Stream Premiere Live, TV Channel

Primetime television is back with its winter premieres and Olivia Benson and the SVU team will return on Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET.

Law & Order Thursdays will make its return as the most popular spinoff, Law & Order SVU, brings the winter premiere of the 26th season back at 9 p.m. ET immediately following the winter premiere of the original Law & Order. The detectives that are part of the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit investigate crimes that are typically sexual in nature. While the focus of the other shows in the ‘Law & Order’ franchise largely deal with murder cases, the SVU detectives frequently deal with the living victims of rapes and sexual assaults while helping them through the investigation and trial if it leads to that. The series began with Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni playing detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler, respectively. While Meloni now has his own spinoff, Hargitay remains as the only original cast member from season one.

With the comings and goings of veteran actors over the years, the show has earned its reputation as one of the best in primetime television. Kelli Giddish made her return to the squad room in the fall as her character Amanda Rollins after stepping away from detective work to serve as a professor at Fordham University. Her husband, Dominick Carisi, played by Peter Scanavino, convinced Rollins to consider a return to SVU at the conclusion of season 25 and much to viewers’ delight, she obliged. Ice-T also returned as fan-favorite Odafin Tutuola, serving as Olivia’s right hand man.

The winter premiere, titled “First Light,” brings forth an abhorrent web of lies and betrayal is uncovered when a woman is confronted with video of a night she can’t remember. While working through the case with the SVU crew, Carisi struggles to move on from his ordeal in his local corner store from the fall finale when the suspect from the holdup changes his plea.
