Night Court returns on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC for its Season 3 Winter Premiere
Season three of Night Court continues on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC. The reboot series, led by The Big Bang Theory’s Bernadette star Melissa Rauch, follows the original series’ lead character Harry Stone’s daughter, Abby Stone, as she juggles the challenges as a judge doing the night shift at the Manhattan Criminal Court. Abby followed in her late father’s footsteps and became a judge. There’s an obvious influence of Harry Stone in the series, with Abby taking after her father’s compassionate and optimistic view of life. At the same time, she also sets a different tone for the reboot. Balancing a mix of old and new, the reboot series distinguishes itself with humor and surprise guest appearances in nearly every episode according to cbr.com.

It continues that the courtroom setting also means that a district attorney will be the show’s regular. The good news for original series fans is that Dan Fielding (John Larroquette) is still the court’s arrogant public defender. In the reboot series, Fielding faces challenges as he adapts to a new boss and a new job to defend the downtrodden, while Abby is determined to prove that he has a heart. Though quite different from the original run, the first season of the reboot series has garnered a lot of positive reviews from critics.
“People tell me they used to watch the show with their parents, their grandparents, aunts, uncles — someone they really loved,” Marsha Renfield — A.K.A Roz in the original NBC sitcom — told NBC Insider ahead of the reboot. “And they got to associate the show with that affection. And so now, those people have children, and they’re giving their children the same kind of experience. ‘I used to watch this show when I was a kid.’ And I guess the affection for the show and the love that people have for the characters transfers to a whole other generation.”
Renfield later continued, “It’s not a remake. They’re taking it in their own way, and I say, “Great!” Go for it. They still maintain the Night Court quirkiness as well as the Night Court heart. I think a lot of people don’t realize how much heart is in that show, and always was, you know? There was always room to care about stuff. And so they still care about stuff.”
