The Grand Ole Opry was founded by George D. Hay on November 28, 1925, which originally launched to promote an insurance company. But it quickly outgrew its roots as Hay took it to a new level. He was a prominent announcer from Chicago famous for his National Barn Dance program. He brought the program to Nashville and had its first performance by 77-year-old fiddler Uncle Jimmy Thompson. It’s humble beginnings launched the careers of countless musicians and has become a coveted stage to perform on for any artist. Here is to another 100 years to the Grand Ole Opry and many more.
