A brand new boxing drama series will hit the small screen on Wednesday night with the premiere of Pound 4 Pound at 10 p.m. ET on BET. The 13 episodes will take viewers to South Africa to give them a glimpse at an all female boxing team as they work to overcome sabotage within their organization. Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa plays Lindiwe Mkhwanazi, the COO of a boxing league who enters her team into a major tournament with the hopes of finding success, but she ends up on a journey to find out who is responsible for trying to bring down her team and all signs point to an inside job.

Kagiso Modupe and Rashaka Muofhe from Bakwena Productions serve as executive producers on the project alongside Herbert Hadebe. The trio produced the show for BET International and is excited to bring South African culture to America with the premiere on Wednesday night in the United States. The show’s aim is to provide viewers with a diverse story which highlights both African culture as well as the international struggle for gender equality and empowerment in male-dominated sports such as boxing.

This new series, filled with a veteran cast, will take on the themes of resilience and redemption, while tightrope walking the lines of drama and comedy. Lindiwe Mkhwanaz will navigate a misogynistic boxing world which she grew up in as the daughter of a famed local boxing coach. She tries to prove that there’s a space for women in the sport as well.
