S.W.A.T. wraps up its eighth and final season on Friday night at 10 pm ET on CBS

S.W.A.T. comes to an end on Friday night at 10 pm ET with its eighth season finale. The show has been cancelled and Friday’s episode will be the last new one. Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, a Los Angeles S.W.A.T. lieutenant, is assigned to lead a highly skilled unit in the community where he grew up. Torn between loyalty to the streets, where the cops are sometimes the enemy, and allegiance to his brothers in blue, he strategically straddles the two worlds. Hondo encourages his team to rely on communication and respect over force and aggression, but when a crisis erupts, these unflinching men and women are prepared to put their tactical training to the test.

In the previous episode, when Hondo’s cousin goes AWOL from his Marine base during basic training, Hondo, Deacon and Daniel Sr. take a road trip to get the kid in line; Alfaro plots to work outside the law when he discovers that his mother’s abusive ex is back in her life.

In the new and final episode on Friday when an auto carrier truck gets hijacked by a high-speed crew, Hondo encounters a ghost from his past; Gamble is thrust into a personal crisis when her brother becomes tangled in the investigation.

The show has been saved two times before, but this time it looks like the end of the road with the last episode on Friday.

“It’s heartbreaking news,” showrunner Andrew Dettman said of S.W.A.T.‘s cancellation to tvline.com, “primarily because it’s been such an immense pleasure working with this cast and crew to put out a show that we’ve always been proud of. They are truly an extraordinary group of people who have all worked so hard and have been so dedicated for all these eight seasons, overcoming countless challenges. I can’t give them enough credit. I feel so privileged to have been a part of the S.W.A.T. family.”
