The four-part docuseries Scamanda premieres Wednesday night on ABC. It tells the story of Amanda Riley.
Three years ago this month Amanda Riley pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges that led to her being sentenced to five years in federal prison and over $100,000 in restitution. On Wednesday the first episode of Scamanda, titled “Stage 1: Who’s Afraid of Amanda Riley,” premieres on ABC. The show follows the story of Riley and the podcast of the same name that unraveled the almost unbelievable story of how she scammed her supporters. This four-part docuseries will feature a new episode each week detailing the findings from the podcast, trial and everything that led to Riley’s over eight year scam to gain attention and benefit financially from a cancer diagnosis.

The challenge with Riley’s cancer story is that it was later found to be a lie. That lie led to her scamming countless supporters for $105,513 dollars over the years. Now she is behind bars finishing the first year of a five year prison sentence.
For eight years Riley would post pictures and actively share on social media that she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Over those years she leaned more and more into the lie, fundraising for her treatment, scamming supporters, and playing on the kindness of others that wanted to help someone in need.
She even went as far as to host in-person fundraising events where she lied directly to those supportive people donating to her supposed treatment. This series details her scam and story as a cautionary tale of how scammers take advantage of good willed people online and in person.
