Liechtenstein and North Macedonia continue their quest to earn a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a qualifying match on Saturday.
World Cup qualifiers begin on Saturday for Liechtenstein and North Macedonia as the teams meet in the first game of Group J play at Rheinpark Stadium in Liechtenstein. The teams will play 10 matches in group play to determine whether or not they will move on in qualifications. A home and away match against each of the four other teams in the group will take place over the next eight months. Joining Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in Group J are Belgium, Kazakhstan and Wales. The United States, Mexico and Canada have already qualified as they are hosting the 2026 event together.

Liechtenstein’s most recent match was played back in November against San Marino in an international friendly and resulted in a 3-1 loss. Aron Sele opened the scoring in the 40th minute with an assist from Fabio Luque Notaro to give Liechtenstein a 1-0 lead, but San Marino scored three unanswered goals in the second half to earn the victory. Despite dominating play and producing 13 shots, the squad was unable get back in the game.
North Macedonia last stepped on the pitch in November in a UEFA Nations League match against the Faroe Islands which resulted in a 1-0 victory, the team’s fifth straight win. The first half was scoreless, but Bojan Miovski scored the game winner in the 62nd minute while Stole Dimitrievski earned the shutout in net, his fifth in a row.
