Lithuania has lost seven in a row as it travels to Poland in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup on Thursday.
Poland is faced with a prime opportunity to inject some pace into its 2026 World Cup qualifying bid when Lithuania visits the Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw on Friday. The matchup marks the opening fixture for both teams in their efforts to make it into the next World Cup, something Lithuania has never managed in 10 attempts while Poland is looking to feature in a third consecutive edition of the global tournament. And the Eagles’ chances of starting this qualifying run wit the right step appear promising after going unbeaten in three meetings against the Tricolours and winning two of those clashes.

Some seven years have passed since these teams last faced off, however, not to mention the fact this will be the first time they have contested a competitive fixture under any circumstances.
Time is running low for Poland captain Robert Lewandowski as he looks to contest a third World Cup – although age doesn’t appear to be catching up to the striker legend anytime soon.
Lewandowski, 36, has a stupendous 35 goals to his name in all competitions this term and leads La Liga with 22 league finishes in what’s been his most prolific campaign since leaving Bayern Munich in 2022.
Needless to say the Barcelona talisman is showing all the signs to indicate he’ll be capable of leading his country at one more World Cup, at which point he’ll be 38 years of age.
Liverpool fullback Andy Robertson scored in the 93rd minute to deny Poland a point when it hosted Scotland in the UEFA Nations League last time out.
That stretched Poland’s winless run to five games on the bounce, though that doesn’t quite compete with Lithuania’s current stretch of seven losses in a row.
Head coach Edgaras Jankauskas has won just four of his 20 matches in charge since taking over Lithuania in January 2023, a record he may struggle to improve in a difficult trip to Warsaw.
