The international break will bring Wales and Kazakhstan into contact for the first time as both teams get the ball rolling on their campaigns to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Wales qualified for the 2022 World Cup after 64 years away from the competition, while the Hawks are still seeking their debut at the tournament finals after seven unsuccessful attempts. The two teams collide at the Cardiff City Stadium in what will be their maiden matchup against one another, with neither side in a position to give up valuable points.

From a Welsh perspective, the host won’t get many more straightforward qualifying matchups than a home fixture against Kazakhstan in a Group J line-up that also includes Belgium, North Macedonia and Liechtenstein.

And Saturday’s home side is on something of a high after dramatically moving up in the UEFA Nations League following a last-ditch upset of Turkey in the table last year.

Wales legend Craig Bellamy was understandably emotional after a powerful 4-1 win over Iceland paved the way for his old team to gain promotion to the top flight of the competition:

The Dragons were helped on by the fact League B rival Turkey lost a crucial clash in Montenegro, with Wales now turning its attention to qualifying for the next World Cup.

Kazakhstan, on the other hand, went the entirety of 2024 without winning a competitive fixture and ended the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign at the bottom of its group.

That being said, the team is hoping for a fresh start under new manager Ali Aliyev, who has taken over the national team on an interim basis.
