Avonworth (10-3) has seen the mountaintop. On Saturday, the Antelopes look to finish the climb when they face Central Valley (7-5) for the WPIAL Class 3 championship at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. Avondale’s last two seasons ended on the grass field at Acrisure watching Belle Vernon celebrate back-to-back titles and the Antelopes come in with three straight victories. The Warriors dropped their regular-season finale but bounced back with consecutive playoff wins to return to the championship game for the first time since they won three straight times from 2019-21.

Avonworth punched its return ticket on Nov. 15 with a 14-6 victory over Imani Christian Academy. Luca Neal finished with 172 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries to power the offense while Mason Metz recorded two sacks and forced a fumble.

Central Valley dropped down from 4A this season and topped Elizabeth Forward 31-15 on Nov. 15, hanging up 321 rushing yards. Mason Dixon rolled for 143 yards and a touchdown while Stephen Rutherford had 108 yards and a score on just four carries. Jance Henry Jr. added a pair of touchdowns on the ground and Tyler Ondrusek notched three sacks.

Carson Bellinger has 988 passing yards and 11 touchdowns for the Antelopes, with Nico Neal leading the ground game with 605 yards and nine scores. Metz has piled up 18 sacks. Dixon powers the Warriors offense with 1,339 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns while dual-threat Rutherford has thrown for 891 yards and five TDs. Ondrasek has eight sacks and 14 tackles for loss.
