The NIAA Class 5A Division II Northern League Championship is set between sixth-ranked Bishop Minogue (8-3) and seventh-ranked Reed (8-2). All season these teams have been two of the best in the state. Now they have the opportunity to play for a state championship. After a first round bye as the top seeded team in the tournament the Miners routed Reno 62-28 in the semifinals. The Raiders also had a bye in the first round as the second seed in the tournament, but played in a much more competitive game against Spanish Springs in the semifinals. They outlasted the Cougars 31-27 to set up this collision of top seven ranked teams in the state for the state championship.I

This is the second game of the season between these teams with the Miners winning the first 42-35 at home. That game was one of the most competitive of the season in Nevada high school football and could be a preview of this game.

In that game the offenses were on fire out of the gates with the Miners scoring 14 points in each of the first two quarters. They went into the half up 28-21 after the Raiders put up 14 points in the second quarter to keep it close. The defenses settled in the second half with the teams trading touchdowns in the final two quarters.

That win was a part of the Miners current six game winning streak between the end of the regular season and playoffs. The Raiders have kept pace winning all three of their games since that loss to build momentum heading into the rematch.
