Orem’s season changed when it beat Springville in the fourth game of the season, by a 17-14 final. The Tigers had lost their last two games, starting the season 1-2, going into the Springville game. After Orem grinded one out in a defensive slugfest, the Tigers would go on to win 10 games in a row. That included a dominant 34-7 win over West in the 5A Tournament semi finals. The Tigers will enter this championship game with an 11-2 record. That three-point loss to Orem was the only loss of the season for Springville. The Red Devils would get back on track after that, winning nine games in a row. That includes a 30-24 win over Brighton in the other semifinal game. Can Springville avenge its only loss of the season, and win the 5A Championship against Orem?

Orem is coming off the most impressive semifinal win last week, in a game where the Tigers got off to a very quick start scoring 20 points in the first quarter alone. They shutout West High School in the first half, and the Panthers’ lone touchdown came in the third quarter. Senior QB Tayden-Evan Kaawa had an efficient game throwing for 132 yards on 9-of-16 passing with two touchdowns. The Tigers scored three more touchdowns on the ground from running back seniors Aisa Galeai, Max Stonebraker, and Easton Kojima.

Springville is coming off a much closer contest against Brighton. The difference was in the first quarter where the Red Devils shutout the Bengals and scored a touchdown. Brighton bounced back with 14 points in the second quarter to only trail by three at half. Springville’s defense showed up clutch again, shutting out its opponent in the third. The Red Devils scored another touchdown in the fourth to hold off a rally from Brighton. Springville junior QB Beckett Burton threw for 158 yards on 9-of-14 passing with no touchdowns. The Red Devils got all their scores on the ground with four, and over 200 yards combined rushing. Tua Naufahu surpassed the century mark with a touchdown, while Lisiate Valeti rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns. It will be a path against the Bengals and Tigers if Springville is to make it to the mountain top in Utah football.
