Max Verstappen leads the field into the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix looking for his third win in five years in this race.

Through the first four races in the 2025 Formula 1 season there have been three different winning drivers. That is a far cry from last season where Max Verstappen won three of the first four races and nine overall to take home his fourth straight drivers championship. This season Verstappen has one win to his name along with second, fourth and sixth place finishes. Oscar Piastri won his second race of the season last week. Lando Norris heads into this race as the points leader with one win and three top three finishes. Those three all won from the pole position something that only happened 11 times last season.

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix has been on the Formula 1 calendar since 2021. Lewis Hamilton won the first race with Verstappen winning two of the next three. Sergio Perez collected a win in 2023.

In last year’s race Verstappen won coming off the pole holding off Perez, Charles Leclerc, Piastri and Fernando Alonso who rounded out the top five. Current points leader Norris finished eighth in that race while the inaugural champion Hamilton finished ninth.

The top five finishers in last year’s race were also the top five in the starting grid after qualifying. This season the importance of qualifying first has been the key to winning with all four race winners coming from pole position.
