With the Sprint out of the way earlier in the day, attention shifts to qualifying on Saturday for Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix.
Qualifying for the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix opens on Saturday afternoon at the Miami International Autodrome, a temporary street circuit that surrounds Hard Rock Stadium. Miami joined the F1 calendar in 2022, a year later than anticipated following delays in getting approval from the Miami Gardens City Council. Max Verstappen, Red Bull’s three-time defending world champion, won the first two editions of the Miami Grand Prix. Last year, he outpaced teammate Sergio Pérez by 5.384 seconds to top the podium while Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso took third. Verstappen also set a track record during last year’s race, covering the 3.363-mile circuit and its 19 turns in 1:29.708 on the penultimate lap.

Verstappen seeks his first pole in Miami after Pérez led the grid last year and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari claimed the initial pole position back in 2022. Verstappen’s victory in 2022 came from the third spot on the grid and last year he worked his way from ninth to win the race.
In five starts this season, Verstappen owns four victories, with Carlos Sainz of Ferrari claiming the other at the Australian Grand Prix back in March. Pérez also has four podium finishes, missing in Australia. Sainz is next with three trips to the podium while Leclerc and McLaren’s Lando Norris each have two.
Entering the Sprint earlier Saturday, Verstappen held a 25-point lead over Pérez in the driver standings.
