Form has fallen off the map for a Marseille team that’s lost its last three games and is just about clinging onto its place in Ligue 1’s top three ahead of Sunday’s visit to Toulouse. It wasn’t long ago Les Olympiens looked like the envy of their peers in France’s top flight, but they’ve suddenly given up their ability to win and are now flailing in their efforts to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Toulouse is also without a win in three games and sits middle of the pack, having done just about enough to dispel any fears of relegation, but without much left to fight for in the weeks ahead.

With only seven matchdays left to play this season, time is running out for Marseille to solidify its top-three status and book a place at Europe’s top table next term.

That’s the ultimate goal for Roberto De Zerbi considering Paris Saint-Germain’s 21-point cushion at the top of the table means the title chase is all but over.

Les Olympiens are mathematically out of that race already at this early stage of the run-in, having crawled to a record of four defeats from their last five outings.

Marseille’s inconsistencies persisted following defeat at Reims on Saturday, marking the club’s fourth loss in five games and a brutal blow as far as the club’s Champions League chances are concerned:

De Zerbi’s spot at the helm may soon come under fire should the club fail to arrest its downward slide, with the former Brighton boss losing much of the lustre that made him such a hit upon his arrival.

One key factor behind that is the deteriorating form of Mason Greenwood, who started strong in France but was recently dropped from the Marseille XI after falling out with his coach.

The one-time England international made a return to the starting line-up at Reims but couldn’t prevent yet another disappointing result, hoping to extend Marseille’s run of more than nine years unbeaten against Toulouse.
