World No. 1 Nelly Korda will seek to win the second women’s major of 2025, as the U.S. Women’s Open gets underway on Thursday.

Nelly Korda leads the world rankings as she prepares to tee off at the U.S. Women’s Open on Thursday, hoping to get off to a fine start in her search for a third career major at Erin Hills in Wisconsin. However, the Floridian will not be the favorite to emerge triumphant come Sunday, as that honor belongs to world No. 2 Jeeno Thitkul, who is still chasing her maiden major title in the $12 million tournament. Filipino-born Yuka Saso – who is representing her father’s birth country, Japan – travels to Erin as the reigning champion and a two-time U.S. Women’s Open winner, though no player has won back-to-back titles in this tournament in 24 years.

American golf fans are rooting for Korda to get the job done this weekend, having fallen way short of the mark when she missed the cut at last year’s U.S. Women’s Open in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Korda won her first major with the Women’s PGA Championship in 2021, the same year she won Olympic gold in Tokyo, followed by her triumph at the Chevron Championship in 2024.

That leaves three majors before the 26-year-old can complete the career Grand Slam, and it’s fair to say she isn’t underestimating the challenge that awaits her in Wisconsin.

And there are more than a few contenders who will have their say in slowing her rise, with Thai contender Thitkul the obvious stumbling block likely to stand in her way.

The 22-year-old has made the cut in each of her eight LPGA Tour appearances so far this season, making the top 10 in six of those and most recently picking up the $450,000 grand prize for winning the Mizuho Americas Open.
