Breezy conditions sent scores higher on Friday for the second round of the Meijer LPGA Classic at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont, Michigan, just north of Grand Rapids, where four players enter Saturday’s third round with a share of the lead at eight-under-par. Hye-Jin Choi and Carlota Ciganda each shot 67 on Friday to claim a spot at the top of the leaderboard alongside Céline Boutier and Karis Davidson. Besides Thompson, Nanna Koerstz Madsen, Bronte Law, Amanda Doherty, Minjee Lee and Sofia Garcia held a share of second place at the end of play on Friday. Defending champion Lilia Vu missed the cut after shooting 77 on Thursday and 75 on Friday while first-round leader Mi Hyang Lee followed her 64 in the first round with a 75 in the second to fall into a tie for 17th place at five-under. Ina Yoon had the low round of the day on Friday with a 66 and is also in the tie for 17th.

The tournament is the last before next week’s Women’s PGA Championship at PGA Frisco in Texas. Thompson, playing a part-time schedule this season, is hunting for her first win on the LPGA Tour since 2019. Grace Kim, who was in a playoff with Vu and Thompson last year at this event, fell out of a share of the lead with bogeys on two of her final three holes and is at six-under.

Players are competing for a piece of the event’s $3 million purse, with $450,000 to the winner along with 500 points in the Race to the CME Globe.
