The Toto Japan Classic will tee off in the first round from Japan on Wednesday night.

The Toto Japan Classic will tee off in the first round of this LPGA Tour tournament at Seta Golf Course in Otis, Shiga, Japan on Wednesday. The golfers will be competing this weekend for a split of the $2 million purse and 500 CME points that will be handed out on Sunday. The course boasts a 72 par, 18-hole dynamic topped with 6,616 total yards. Last year, Mone Inami from Japan won the Toto Japan Classic with a 22-under-par score and a 266 total. She won $300,000.

In 2022 Scotland native Gemma Dryburgh won with a 20-under-par score. In 2019 Ai Suzuki won at 17-under-par and in 2018, Nasa Hataoka won at 14-under-par. Three of the past four winners have been native to Japan. The most influential hole on the course this year is hole 13, a par five measuring 476 yards and the riskiest hole on the course. How players decide to play that hole could make or break their scores and final placement.

Haeran Ryu enters the tournament with the best odds to win. She came in third in her last tournament, the Maybank Championship, with a 21-under-par score. She came in No. 6 at the BMW Ladies Championship and third again at the Kroger Queen City Championship. That was all after she won the FM Championship with a 15-under-par score.

Ryu is followed by Ayaka Furue, Miyuu Yamashita, Mao Saigo, and Jin Young Ko to round out the top five. Furue won the Amundi Evian Championship earlier this year with a 19-under-par score. Saigo is looking for her first win this season after finishing No. 2 twice at the Buick LPGA Shanghai and the CPKC Women’s Open.
