Defending champion Erik van Rooyen left himself with work to do after a second-round 71. He is in a tie for 35th place, seven shots off the lead. The winner earns $1.296 million of the tournament’s $7.2 million purse, 500 FedExCup points and a two-year Tour exemption.

The event is the sixth of eight on the PGA Tour’s FedExCup Fall schedule, allowing players who didn’t finish in the top 50 on the points list to earn berths in next year’s first two Signature events, the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Genesis Invitational, as well as full tour status for players who finish between 51st and 125th.

Dylan Wu is in solo fourth after a second-round 65 and trails by two shots. Austin Eckroat, Maverick McNealy and Kelly Craft are at nine-under for the tournament, three shots back, in a tie for fifth while seven players are tied for eighth at eight-under, including first-round co-leader Tom Whitney.
