J.T. Poston leads after round one as Morikawa, Åberg and McIlroy lurk as the second round tees off
After carding an opening round 63, J.T. Poston carries a two-shot lead into today’s second round of the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island in search of his third PGA Tour win. This tournament is the fifth PGA Tour signature event of the season, with the prize purse sitting at $20 million with $3.6 million and 500 FedEx Cup points going to the winner. Masters Champion and World number one ranked Scottie Scheffler birdied 16 and 17 to finish at -2 while Jordan Spieth, who started with four birdies in his first five holes, bogeyed three of his last 12 holes and is at -1 after the first round.

Last year, Matt Fitzpatrick beat defending champion Jordan Spieth in a three-hole sudden-death playoff to take home his second career PGA Tour victory just ten months after winning the 2022 U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. Fitzpatrick carded an opening round 70 and is tied for 38th after the first round.
Seamus Power and Collin Morikawa are both at -6 after the first round and sit two shots off the lead. Power birdied four of the first five holes of the day while Morikawa birdied three of his last six holes en route to an opening round 65.
Ludvig Åberg, who finished second at Augusta last week, carded an eagle on the par 5 fifth hole after dropping a nine-foot putt and finished the front nine at -4 before wrapping up an opening round 66 and comes into today’s second round three shots off the lead.
