The Green Bay Packers are starting to look like the NFC New England Patriots. Sure they don't have the comparable rings that the Patriots do. But they have a hall of famer at quarterback and always go deep in the playoffs. But the Packers and Patriots are looking more and more similar because of their seemingly unwillingness to spend money or give up large draft capital. This team only develops within.

While we were all watching the election results on November 3, the NFL trade deadline came and went and the Packers still didn't pull the trigger on getting Aaron Rodgers more help at specialty positions. Most notably was the rumor that the Packers were interested in Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller but weren't willing to part with the high picks Houston was supposedly asking for. Fuller when healthy is a great receiver and certainly the best Texan's receiver after DeAndre Hopkins was traded to Arizona.

This move seemed like a no-brainer for the Packers and a small sign of gratitude to make it up to Rodgers for drafting a quarterback in the first round of the 2020 draft. Instead, he is left with a roster that is really struggling with injuries right now and wasn't really competitive against a 1-5 Minnesota Vikings team who handed the Packers their second loss. Rodgers seemed unstoppable to start the season but it's clear he'll need more playmakers if they are going to make a difference in this year's playoffs in a stacked NFC landscape. It's anyone's guess what Rodgers has to do to get some more reinforcements.

As for the San Francisco 49ers, the 2020 season just keeps getting rougher and rougher. After losing the Super Bowl after they had a late lead against the Chiefs, in a season where they were projected to at least win the NFC West, they sit last in their division. That has a lot to do with a very unfortunate injury streak. Then, just this week, the 49ers were forced to shut down their practice because of several positive coronavirus cases.

Last week quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had his second high ankle sprain of the season and tight end George Kittle broke his foot. They are anticipated to be out at least eight weeks which is about the end of the regular season. Nick Mullens replaced Jimmy G and actually outperformed him in their game against the Seahawks. He closed the gap making it a respectable losing score and nearly came within one score in a game they were once down 30-7.

But Mullens is no Aaron Rodgers of course and the 49ers should be considerable underdogs in this one, in what has become a lost season of sorts. This game seems a far cry from the 49ers whooping of the Packers in the NFC Championship just this year in January.
