Brother Rice will look to earn a trip to the IHSA Class 3A title game with a win over St. Patrick on Thursday afternoon in high school basketball action.

The Brother Rice Crusaders will take on the St. Patrick Shamrocks on Thursday afternoon as the teams battle for the first spot in the IHSA Class 3A Tournament final to be played on Saturday. The game will take place at the State Farm Center, setting the stage for a highly competitive game between two of the state’s best teams. The Shamrocks made it through to the semifinals after beating Mt. Carmel in a narrow 49-48 victory on Monday night in the Chicago Super-Sectional, earning a trip to the state tournament for the first time in school history. RJ McPartlin led the team in scoring with 12 points and also pulled down eight rebounds to lead on the boards. It was Anthony Favia who gave the team its winning point, sinking a free throw with six seconds left to give the team its first state tournament berth.

The Crusaders improved to 30-6 on the season with a big 60-41 win over Peoria on Monday in the Pontiac Super-Sectional. Brother Rice was led by Marco Gonzales and Jack Wigus who scored 21 points and 17 points, respectively, accounting for almost half of the Crusaders’ points. Gonzales has led the team all season, averaging 18.1 points per game and also leads on the boards with 5.5 rebounds per game. The team will look to him to bring that same level of play into the semifinal game on Thursday with the hopes of earning a berth in the title game.

The Crusaders have now won 12 straight games while the Shamrocks bring a seven-game win streak into Thursday’s semifinal matchup.
