Montverde Academy will head on the road to begin this weekend in boys’ varsity high school basketball with a showdown with the country’s No. 1 ranked team, Columbus, in Miami, Florida. The Columbus Explorers are 17-3 overall this season but have yet to play a district game. They are the No. 1-ranked team in Florida and the No. 1-ranked team nationally. They lost their opening game of the season against Prolific by 12 points which jump started a winning streak for the group as they went on to win 13 games straight.

That streak included wins over Montverde Academy, IMG Academy, and a three-overtime thriller against Gonzaga. They lost two games straight at the end of December against Long Island Lutheran and Link Academy. They have yet to lose in January, beating Riviera Prep, Coral Park, Notre Dame, and most recently, Perry High on the back of a 31-point performance from Cameron Boozer.

They have yet to lose on the road or at home, losing all three games on neutral sites. After opening the season with five wins, they lost to Brewster Academy National by 12 points.

They won three more games before losing in a tournament game to Columbus by 12 points. They won five more games against Southeastern Prep, Legacy Early College, BVCPS, Oak Hill, and Utah Prep. However, they lost their last game earlier this week by four points to Arizona Compass Prep National.
