Brother Rice looks to hold onto its lead in the Chicago Catholic League Blue Division when it hosts St. Rita
Brother Rice (22-3) has won five straight games and has surged to the top of the Blue Division in the Chicago Catholic League with a 5-1 mark. On Friday night, the Crusaders host St. Rita (4-20), which is winless in six division games and has lost seven in a row. Brother Rice was 31-4 a season ago before losing to Thornton in the Illinois Class 3A sectional finals. The Mustangs come off a 2-27 campaign in 2023-24 and last had a winning season in 2022-23 when they finished 23-11.

Marcos Gonzales scored 17 points to surpass the 1,000 mark for his career, leading the Crusaders to a 65-45 win at Marmion in Aurora on Tuesday night in a Catholic League crossover game. Jack Weigus added 14 points in the victory. Brother Rice hasn’t lost since a 56-51 non-conference defeat at Chicago Marist on Jan. 21.

St. Rita comes off a 68-45 Catholic League crossover road loss to St. Laurence in Burbank on Tuesday night. The Mustangs’ last win came in a 56-30 rout at non-conference foe Reavis in Aurora on Jan. 10. St. Rita’s last state tournament appearance was in 2022, when it lost to Kenwood in the Class 4A sectional final.
Brother Rice boasts some famous alumni, including former collegiate players Phil Hicks (Tulane), Rico Hill (Illinois State) and Bobby Frasor (North Carolina). Hicks and Hill each spent time in the NBA. St. Rita alumnus Charles Matthews played at Michigan and currently is with the Memphis Hustle of the NBA G League.
