DJ Mitchell and La Habra will take the field on Friday against Liam Meeker and Mira Costa.
La Habra will head on the road this week in high school football to take on Mira Costa in the first round of the playoffs in Manhattan Beach, California, on Friday night. The Highlanders are 9-1 overall this season and 5-0 against league teams. They are the first-ranked team in the league and the No. 52-ranked team in California. Their only loss this season came in the first game of the season against Upland on the road 26-23. Since then, they have gone undefeated, beating nine straight teams.
They took down Newport Harbor, Ayala, Orange, and La Mirada, leading into their league play. They opened up league play against El Dorado, where they won 25-7, before taking down HBHS, Crean Lutheran, Laguna Hills, and most recently, Foothill, 49-14. Sophomore quarterback DJ Mithcell leads the offense for La Habra. He has 929 yards and 14 touchdowns through the air while also having 556 yards on the ground with another four touchdowns.
The Mustangs head into the playoffs with a 5-5 record overall and just a 2-3 record against league teams. They are the No. 4-ranked team in the league and the No. 53-ranked team in the state. They were able to take down Lawndale and Culver City to start league play before losing three-straight games heading into the playoffs.
They lost to Inglewood, Leuzinger, and Palos Verdes in their last three games of the regular season. Junior quarterback Liam Meeker leads the team this teams. He has 922 yards and five touchdowns through the air while also totaling 739 yards on the ground and another eight touchdowns with his legs.
