The final day of Hockey Day Minnesota opens with Hibbing/Chisholm and Eden Prairie facing off at Valleyfair Amusement Park

The annual Hockey Day Minnesota celebration concludes on Saturday with two high school matchups on the outdoor rink at Valleyfair Amusement Park in Shakopee. The first pits Hibbing/Chisholm (12-7-0) from the Lake Superior Conference and Eden Prairie (9-7-2) out of the Lake Conference. The Blue Jackets come in with a two-game winning streak while the Eagles have taken three straight victories and are unbeaten in their last four outings. Hibbing/Chisholm reached the Section 7 championship game in Class A last season while Eden Prairie was eliminated in the Section 2 semifinals in Class AA.

The Blue Jackets come off a dominant 8-0 non-conference win at International Falls on Tuesday. Tate Swanson put up two goals and an assist while Cole Swanson lit the lamp once and had two helpers. Kelin Elsner also scored twice in the victory and Gavin Lamphere needed to make just 12 saves to record the shutout. Tate Swanson leads the team with 14 goals and 41 points while Jace Kampsula checks in with 13 tallies. Rex Walli is 7-3-0 in net with a 2.41 goals-against average and .896 save percentage.

The Eagles improved to 3-1-1 in conference play with a 3-0 blanking of visiting Minnetonka on Thursday. Cole Pitzl’s goal 7:19 into the game gave them a 1-0 advantage and Eden Prairie got a pair of empty-net tallies late in the third period to pad the lead. Bennett Wilmer stopped 16 shots to get the shutout. Chase Klute has a team-high 16 goals and Alex Hall has 10 while Rio Treharne leads the team with 30 points. Wilmer has a 7-5-1 mark to go with a 2.79 GAA and .881 save percentage.

Hibbing/Chisholm played in the 2011 Class A state tournament and before joining forces, Hibbing won state titles in 1952 and 1973. The Eagles have appeared 13 state tournaments, winning in Class AA titles in 2009, 2011 and 2021.
