Maple Grove heads to Valleyfair Amusement Park with 4 straight wins as it takes on Shakopee in an outdoor game.

The final outdoor game of the Hockey Day Minnesota celebration at Valleyfair Amusement Park in Shakopee pits Maple Grove (10-6-1) and Shakopee (13-5-1) on Saturday afternoon. The Crimson have won four straight games and are unbeaten in their last five while the Sabres had a seven-game winning streak snapped with an overtime loss on Jan. 18. Maple Grove lost to Centennial in the Section 5AA championship game last season while Shakopee fell in the Section 2AA semifinals to Chanhassen. The Crimson play in the Northwest Suburban Conference while the Sabres are members of the South Suburban Conference.

Maple Grove comes off a 4-2 win at Elk River/Zimmerman on Thursday. Brady Aubut scored twice, including the go-ahead goal at 4:34 of the second period that broke a 2-2 tie. Jacob Barber had the other two tallies for the Crimson. Wyatt Kuznik leads the squad with 10 goals while Aubut’s two-goal game moved him to nine on the year. Jaden Roueche and Lane Glende share the team lead with 19 points while Zach Price is 9-6-1 in net with a 2.73 goals-against average and .899 save percentage.

Shakopee had a 2-0 lead after the first period before host Hermantown stormed back with a pair of third-period goals to tie it before claiming a 3-2 victory at the 7:02 mark of overtime. Tristin Wassengeso and Nate Pederson each logged a goal and an assist, with Cooper Simpson assisting on both goals. Simpson leads the team with 25 goals and 43 points and Cooper Siegert has 15 tallies. Owen Lunneborg is 10-3-1 with a 1.71 GAA and .911 save percentage.

Maple Grove has played in six state tournaments, finishing runner-up in 2022, while the Sabres appeared in the 2005 Class A tourney.
