Western Michigan comes in after winning the NCHC. The Broncos took the regular season title, then beat St. Cloud State, North Dakota, and Denver on their way to winning the conference tournament, with the championship against Denver going to two overtime before the game ended in a 4-3 final. With those tournament wins, the Broncos come into the Frozen Four on a six game winning streak and are unbeaten in regulation in their last nine games.

This is the Broncos’ fourth year in a row in the Frozen Four tournament. However they haven’t won a game since 2022, which was also their only win in the tournament in the history of their program.

Like Western Michigan, Minnesota State also won its conference regular season championship and tournament. The Mavericks beat Lake Superior State, Bemidji State, and then St. Thomas in the championship game to win their tournament. They are unbeaten in their last 11 games.

Minnesota State is back in the tournament after missing last year. They’d reached the Frozen Four round the two previous years including a loss to Denver in the National Championship in 2022.
