Military academy rivals square off this weekend in Colorado Springs with Army taking on Air Force. This series – which begins on Friday night – also holds major seeding implications for the upcoming AHA Conference Tournament.

It’s the penultimate weekend of regular season play in the AHA. With the majority of teams having just four games left to play before the conference tournament begins there’s still a lot to be sorted out in the conference standings, especially sorting out which five teams will get byes in the first round. Heading into the weekend the fifth seed and that final bye is held by Army (12-16-1, 12-9-1 AHA). However, rival Air Force (13-18-1, 10-12-0 AHA) isn’t far behind, trailing by six points. The two teams meet for a pair of games this weekend in Colorado Springs, starting Friday night at the Cadet Ice Arena.

These teams already played twice this year, with a weekend series at Tate Rink in West Point last month. Army swept both of those games in one-score margins with wins of 3-2 and 4-3, with the second of those wins coming in overtime.

Prior to those two Army wins, Air Force had won eight head-to-head meetings in a row. That included a couple of matchups in the AHA tournament in recent years. Army hasn’t won in Colorado Springs since January of 2022. Air Force leads the all-time series 53 to 31 with nine ties.
