Army takes a 4-game winning streak to Robert Morris for a 2-game Atlantic Hockey America series that opens Friday

Army (9-15-0) rides a four-game winning streak as it hits the road for a two-game Atlantic Hockey America series with Robert Morris (9-11-3) at Clearview Arena in suburban Pittsburgh that opens on Friday night. The Black Knights are 9-8-0 in AHA play with 26 points, good for fifth place, while the Colonials are 6-7-2 in league action and stand in eighth place in the 11-team conference with 22 points. Army has never played in the NCAA tournament while Robert Morris made its lone trip to the tourney in 2014.

The Black Knights come off a two-game AHA sweep of visiting Air Force last weekend, winning 3-2 on Jan. 17 and taking a 4-3 overtime victory on Saturday. Mac Gadowsky leads the team with 10 goals and 24 points, with Nik Hong netting eight goals thus far. JJ Cataldo is 8-9-0 in 18 games and 17 starts in net with a 2.21 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.

The Colonials split a two-game set with RIT last weekend at home, getting a 6-1 win in the opener on Jan. 17 before losing the finale 3-2 on Saturday. Walter Zacher has a team-high 11 goals, Mitch Deelstra checks in with 10 and Tanner Klimpke leads the club with 20 points. Croix Kochendorfer is 6-6-2 in 15 games and 14 starts in goal, posting a 2.99 GAA and .901 save percentage.

Robert Morris leads the all-time series 14-10-6, with the teams splitting two games last season in West Point on Feb. 9-10. Brian Riley is 251-374-92 in his 21st season behind the Army bench while Derek Schooley — the only coach in the Colonials’ Division I hockey history — is 226-198-48 during his tenure, which began in 2004 and was interrupted when the school dropped its program in 2021 before reviving it for the 2023-24 season.
