Merrimack and Harvard try to salvage a win in Belfast when they meet at the Friendship Four on Saturday

Merrimack (3-8-1) takes on Harvard (2-4-1) on Saturday for third place at the Friendship Four, played at The SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Warriors lost a Hockey East conference game on Friday to Boston University while the Crimson fell to Notre Dame in their semifinal. Merrimack has lost its last three games entering Saturday while Harvard is winless in its last four (0-3-1). The Warriors are led by coach Scott Borek and played in the NCAA tournament in 2023. Former NHL player and Harvard alum Ted Donato is the bench boss for the Crimson, which was also in the 2023 NCAA tourney.

Merrimack fell into a 3-0 hole in the first 15:05 of the game and never recovered, getting it back to a one-goal margin before Boston University potted three more pucks for a 6-2 victory on Friday. Antonio Venuto and David Sacco scored the goals for the Warriors. Venuto’s goal was his team-best fourth of the year while Zach Bookman leads the club with six points (one goal). Max Lundgren is 2-3-0 in six starts in goal with an .883 save percentage and 3.46 goals-against average.

Harvard followed a similar script, falling behind 3-0 in the first period, getting the game back to within a goal before watching Notre Dame ice the game with a pair of third-period goals on Friday in its 5-2 win. Joe Miller and Cam Johnson scored for the Crimson in the loss. Miller’s tally gave him the team lead with three goals and Mick Thompson has seven points (two goals). Aku Koskenvuo is 2-4-1 in seven starts with an .895 save percentage and 2.98 GAA.

The Warriors are 2-0-1 against Harvard, with the teams skating to a 2-2 tie in their most recent meeting at Merrimack on Dec. 7, 2012.
