The Bobcats have played in the last six NCAA tournaments, winning the program’s first national championship in 2023, while the Black Bears snapped a 12-year tournament drought in 2024 and returned to the field last season. Both teams lost in the first round in 2025, with Quinnipiac falling to UConn and Maine, the No. 3 national seed, getting upset by Penn State.

Maine opened its season last weekend with a two-game home sweep of Holy Cross, taking a 5-2 decision on Oct. 10 before following it up with a 6-0 victory on Saturday night. Justin Poirier scored three goals and logged four points in the series while Jaden Lipinski had two goals and two assists. Albin Boija stopped 40-of-42 shots in the two victories.

Quinnipiac returns from the Ice Breaker Tournament at Arizona State last weekend, where they lost 2-1 to Alaska-Fairbanks on Oct. 10 before rebounding with a 7-2 thrashing of Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon. Ethan Wyttenbach, Antonin Verreault and Chris Pelosi share the team lead with two goals while Wyttenbach tops the squad with four points. Dylan Silverstein started the Bobcats’ first two games before Matej Marinov got the call against the Fighting Irish, making 23 saves.

The Black Bears and Bobcats skate against each other for the fourth straight season after Maine swept two games at home last October. Quinnipiac holds a slim 9-8-1 advantage in the series.
