On Thursday night, Penn State will take a trip to Columbus to take on No. 17 Ohio State at the Value City Arena for a Big Ten hockey matchup. The Nittany Lions are currently in last place in the conference standings with a Big Ten record of 0-6-0 and an overall record of 6-7. The team is on a two-game win streak with the most recent being a big 7-1 win over Colgate last week before the holiday break. In the win, seven different Nittany Lions scored with Matt DiMarsico leading things off with a goal in the first 40 seconds of play to give Penn State a 1-0 lead. Casey Aman made it a 2-0 game a little more than a minute later while Dylan Lugris, Dane Dowiak and Danny Dzhaniyev also scored first-period goals. Colgate got one on the board in the first, as well, but that’s where the scoring ended. JJ Wiebusch and Charlie Cerrato scored the last two goals in the second period and John Seifarth anchored the defense with 22 saves on the night.

The Buckeyes come into Thursday’s conference contest with an overall record of 9-4-1 and a conference record of 2-2-0 so far for a spot in fifth place in the Big Ten standings. The team is on a two-game losing streak with the last time on the ice resulting in a 3-1 loss to Princeton on Saturday in New Jersey. The game was scoreless until the third period, but the Tigers got on the board early. Princeton netted three goals in 12 minutes to make it a 3-0 lead. The Buckeyes got on the board with seven minutes remaining with a power play goal from Joe Dunlap, but the Buckeyes’ scoring ended there. Logan Terness made 19 saves in between the pipes for the Buckeyes in the loss.

Ohio State leads the all-time series with Penn State with a 25-22-4 record, including a 14-13-2 record in Columbus. Last season, Penn State won all four meetings between the teams, outscoring the Buckeyes 15-9.
