Both Robert Morris and Holy Cross were playing well when AHA conference play paused for the New Year in mid-December.

After the New Year’s break and some non-conference showcase games at the start of January, AHA teams will face off against one another once again this weekend, starting on Friday night. That slate includes two teams who were playing well in conference before the break in Robert Morris (8-9-2, 5-5-1 AHA) and Holy Cross (8-11-1, 7-4-1 AHA). Friday night will be the first of two games between these teams in a weekend back-to-back in Worcester.

Holy Cross had won four conference games in a row before the break, including a weekend sweep of Sacred Heart with wins of 6-1 and 4-1. The Crusaders also beat Army and American International in that stretch, with the AIC game being their final one before the break on Dec. 6.

After the break the Crusaders played at Long Island on New Year’s Eve day, and lost 3-1. They then dropped a pair of overtime games in the Coachella Valley Cactus Cup last weekend against Omaha and Michigan Tech.

Robert Morris had won back-to-back games and three of four before the break, sweeping Canisius in Buffalo and splitting a weekend series with RIT with the lone loss coming in overtime.

The Colonials were off from Dec. 15 until last weekend when they took part in the ASU Desert Classic. They lost both games, falling to No. 19 Arizona and UMass.
