These teams played just twice this season, in a home-and-home weekend set. On Jan. 31 in Providence, the game was still tied at 3-3. It took eight rounds in a shootout before UConn came away with the win. The next afternoon in Storrs the road team won again, as Providence picked up the 6-3 victory.

UConn is trying to get back to the Hockey East Championship for the first time since 2022. That was the Huskies’ lone appearance in the championship game, which they lost to UMass 2-1 in overtime.

Providence has been to the championship five times, most recently in a 2018 loss to Boston University. The Friars’ last tournament win was all the way back in 1996.
