The UConn Huskies battle the Maine Black Bears on Friday night in the finals of the Hockey East Tournament. The Huskies earned a trip to the finals thanks to a 5-1 win over Boston Universty on Thursday in the semifinals. Joey Muldowney was the star for the Huskies as he recorded a hat-track to help lead them to the championship game. It was the third time the Huskies have played in the semifinals and this will be their second championship game. Their first trip was back in 2022, but they dropped that game and Friday they will be looking for thei first ever Hockey East title. The win on Thursday was the fifth in a row for the Huskies and it has pushed their record to 22-10-4. The Huskies have been red-hot and come into Friday 8-0-1 over their last nine games.

The Black Bears will look to slow down the streaking Huskies as they try and earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament that starts next week.

The Black Bears are the seond seed in the tournament, but were nearly eliminated on Thursday in the semifinals against upset-minded Northeastern.

They needed two overtimes to get by the Huskies and secure their spot in the finals. Nolan Renwick scored at 11:02 of the second overtime to lift the Black Bears to the win.

Renwick redirected a centering pass from Charlie Russell to push the Balck Bears to the title game for the first time since 2012 and its 14th appearance overall. They have won five championships, but haven’t won a titie since 2004.
