A top 20 matchup will take place in men’s college ice hockey on Friday night as No. 4 Minnesota hosts No. 17 Wisconsin at 3M Arena at Mariucci for a Big Ten contest. The Badgers are currently in fourth place in the Big Ten standings with a conference record of 6-9-1 and an overall record of 11-12-3. Last week, the team played No. 10 Michigan, winning 5-4 in the first game on Friday night before playing to a 4-4 draw on Saturday which ended up resulting in a shootout loss. In the second game, four different Badgers scored, showing the depth of the program in a hard-fought game. The Golden Gophers have gotten off to a strong start in conference play and are currently 10-4-2 for a total of 32 points and a spot in second place behind Michigan State. The teams last two games were played against the conference-leading Spartans and resulted in a tough 9-3 loss on Friday night before bouncing back and playing to a 3-3 draw on Saturday. The game was back-and-forth with Michigan State scoring first and Jimmy Snuggerrud tying things up 10 minutes later. The Spartans went ahead with 13 left in the second, but Snuggerud was there to tie things up again. Michigan State scored once more in the second period, but the Gophers did not back down and Luke Mittelstadt scored the equalizer on a power play. Despite multiple opportunities in the third, neither team was able to scored the go-ahead goal and the game went to a shootout which Michigan State won.

Wisconsin and Minnesota have already met twice this season and the Golden Gophers won both games 3-2, one of which went into overtime. Tune in Friday night to see if the Badgers can get one back with a win on the road.
