    Sweden looks to win a medal for the 6th straight time at the IIHF U-18 World Championships as it faces Slovakia on Sunday.

    Sweden (3-2-1) fell short in its semifinal against Canada on Saturday and faces Slovakia (2-4-0) on Sunday at Metro Arena in Espoo, Finland, for the bronze medal at the IIHF U-18 World Championships. Both teams finished third in their respective groups before advancing with upset wins in the quarterfinals. The Swedes look to extend their streak of consecutive medals to six while the Slovaks last took home hardware from the U-18 worlds in 2003. Since 2018, Sweden has earned bronze, gold, bronze, gold and silver medals, respectively, with the 2020 tournament canceled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Slovakia has two medals in its history at the tournament, which began in 1999, a silver and a bronze.

    The Swedes fought back after falling into a 4-0 deficit after one period, losing to Canada 5-4 on Saturday. Viggo Nordlund scores twice in the second period before Victor Eklund and Hugo Orrsten added third-period goals. Sweden held a 29-14 shot advantage over the final two periods and a 35-26 edge for the game.

    Slovakia never led in its 7-2 loss to the United States in Saturday’s semifinal. The U.S. got the first goal 3:08 into the game and led 2-0 before Adam Nemec found the net at 12:45 of the first period. Tomas Chrenko had the other goal for the Slovaks with just 42 seconds remaining in the game.

    Linus Eriksson paces Sweden with seven points, including six assists, while Eklund leads the team with three goals. Love Harenstam owns an .887 save percentage and 2.63 goals-against average while playing every game in net. Luka Radivojevic leads Slovakia with six points, all on assists, and Tomas Pobezal comes in with four goals. Goalies Alan Lendak and Martin Haronik combined for an .849 save percentage and 4.69 GAA thus far.
