One of the hottest teams in college hockey since the New Year’s break is Holy Cross (17-11-2, 16-4-2 AHA). The Crusaders have stormed back from the break winning eight in a row, and haven’t been beaten in regulation since New Year’s Eve. All of those wins have come in conference play, which has helped the Crusaders shoot up the AHA standings. They enter the weekend in second place behind Sacred Heart, and will look to continue to close the gap as they host Mercyhurst (4-22-4, 4-15-3 AHA) for a pair of games starting on Thursday night.

It’s been Holy Cross’ defense in particular that’s been dominant during this eight-game winning streak. The Crusaders have allowed a total of 13 goals – or 1.6 goals per game – over this stretch. However, they didn’t get their first shutout of the 2025 calendar year until their second game of last weekend when they beat RIT 3-0 to complete the weekend sweep after a 9-2 win on Friday.

Their opponent this week, Mercyhurst, is coming off of getting swept at home last weekend by American International. Prior to that the Lakers had a sweep of their own, with a regulation and shootout win on the road at Robert Morris.
